Glossary of Terms:
- Bed Dimensions:
- This is the length, the width, and the height of the Bed and all its parts.
- Twin:
- Also known as Single. A 38" x 75" Mattress fits this Bed.
- Full:
- Also known as a Double. A 53" x 75" Mattress fits this Bed.
- Queen:
- Also known as a Queensize. A 60" x 80" Mattress fits this Bed.
- King:
- Also known as an Eastern King. A 76" x 80" Mattress fits this Bed.
- California King:
- Also known as a Cal King. A 72" x 84" Mattress fits this Bed.
- Metal Beds:
- Beds furnished in metal, steel, and iron comprised of a Headboard, Footboard, and Frame. They are comfortable to sleep on yet steady as a rock. These Beds can have Canopy kits where available.
- Canopy Beds:
- Beds with four posts that are connected together by rods at the top. Gorgeous fabrics are usually draped over the entire Bed. Beds are available in iron, wood, metal, and metal/wood.
- Daybeds:
- Beds with back and sides specifically set up for ease and usefulness. All Day Beds are Twin Size. Beds are available in iron, wood, metal, and metal/wood. When combined with a Trundle (up to 8" in height), a Daybed can provide extra sleeping space that is almost close to a King Size sleeping surface.
- Kids' Beds:
- Beds with whimsical designs set up to entertain your children. Always tested for child safety, these beds are usually matched with Nightstands and Toy Chests that compliment the Bed.
- Futons:
- Available in iron, wood, metal, and metal/wood these Beds serve both as a sturdy sofa and a comfortable bed. A mechanical mechanism in the frame allows the Futon to be set in many different levels and positions.
- Metal & Wood Beds:
- Beds are sturdy and have elegant designs with mixed wood and metal. Iron and wood combine to make a masterpiece. Beds come with Headboard and Footboard.
- Wood Beds:
- These Beds are furnished entirely in solid wood, oak, maple, mohagany, and other popular woods. Beds come in many finishes that make a room feel special. And come with Headboard and Footboard.
- Bunk Beds:
- Beds that stacked on top of each other and in some cases can become two separate pieces of furniture. Bunk Beds are sold in iron, sold hardwood, and even Futon Bunk Beds in many styles and finishes.
- Platform Beds:
- These Beds do not need a Box Spring, a Mattress will suffice. There are extra slats of across the frame that makes the need for a Box Spring non-existent.
- Style:
- This is the atmosphere you are trying to set in a room
- Contemporary:
- A contemporary style is one of good looking, relaxed, and very casual. Most of your woods are light, like birch, maple, or some dark dramatic stains. Sofas and Chairs are always in soft inviting fabrics.
- Traditional:
- A traditional style is one of which rich fabrics and dark woods like cherry and mahogany are in your taste. Your furniture stands the test of time
- Country:
- A country style is an attachment to classic country designs, both American and European. You prefer primitive rough-hewn rustic pieces along with distressed finishes and hand-painted designs. Your preference in fabric is flowery chintz, linen or hardworking denim, woven plaids, and textured nubby fabrics.
- Modern:
- A modern style is one of sharp linear design. Fabrics are simple, although frequently richly woven, while leather is a perfect fabric for this setting. Mix dark and light colors to create your own modern setting.
- Trundle:
- The Pull Out, Pop-up Trundle folds down and rolls underneath the daybed when not in use and quickly rolls out and raises to create an additional Twin Sized sleeping area when needed.
- Bed Frames:
- Lower part of the Bed that is the framework. It holds the Mattress and/or the Box Spring in place while also securing to Headboard and Footboard. The Bed Frame is important because this is the Bed's main structure.
- Headboards:
- Attach to single ended Engineered Frame. Provide decoration and stability to the top of your Bed. Available in solid wood, metal, wrought iron, and cast steel and also in many styles and finishes.
- Bedroom Set:
- An entire collection, entirely matching, that can include any or all of these items: Beds, Chests, Benches, Mirrors, Dressers, and Nightstands.
- Nightstands:
- They are the building block to a good Bedroom. Complimentary to the Bed, these stands also present storage space and a great place to position a Lamp.
- Toy Chests:
- Preserve precious space with their storage capacity. No children's room should go without one and are great for decoration. When upholstered will sometimes be referred to as a Bench.
- Futon Covers:
- A cover that engulfs the entire surface area of the Futon. They are more rugged then plain sheets (not changed regularly, but washable). Since the Futon is a very widely used piece of furniture this option comes in especially handy. It is patterned for your personal taste and décor.
- Mirrors:
- Adds a finishing touch to the Bedroom. Nothing welcomes you into your bedroom more then an elegant mirror that specifically matches your Bed.
- Benches:
- Use as a decoration or sit on it for leisure. A great accent to any Bed and is multi-purpose.
Eclectic: A variety of shapes and colors are mixed together to form this style. It is all about imagination, unexpected contrasts, and delightful surprises that make your room unique to yourself.
- Engineered Bed Frame:
- Strong Metal Bed frames that support a Mattress and Boxspring.
- Double Ended Frame:
- Bed frame that supports both a Headboard and Footboard.
- Single Ended Frame:
- Bed frame that supports just a Headboard.
- Slat System:
- Wood Beds have wood slats that help hold up the Box Spring and Mattress.
- Solid Brass:
- The tubing of a Bed. Is made of Brass, but is not solid all the way throughout.
- Dressers:
- Holds shelving for clothes and other belongings in a stylish form. Come in all types of finishes and styles.
- Box Springs:
- The part of a Bed that is needed for support. It is not needed for Daybeds, Futons, or Platform Beds.
- Mattresses:
- The soft covering that supports while you sleep. In varying sizes and styles, the comfort of the Bed relies on this intricate part.
- Pillow Top:
- The top of the Mattress that adds extra comfort in small pillow shapes.
- Box Top:
- The top of the Mattress that adds extra comfort in larger boxy shapes.
- Loft Bed:
- A Bed set above the surface that adds extra space below it for a desk or other non-sleeping surfaces.
- Futon Frame:
- The mechanism that enables the Futon to switch from an erect Couch to a Bed. There are many different frames such as slat rack, seat rack, back rest, tri fold, bi fold, kicker, and wall hugger.
- Futon Mattress:
- This Mattress fits specifically for the Futon. Originated in Japan
- Four Poster Bed:
- Bed with four posts that can be transformed into a Canopy Bed. Bed can come in Metal or Wood form.
- Sleigh Bed:
- Bed that comes in a sleigh like form. Beds come in Metal or Wood form and give the room an antique look.
- Armoire:
- Bedroom furniture piece that stores clothing or other valuables. Made of wood and has a two door opening mechanism with extra storage compartments.
- Chest:
- Holds precious belongings and valuables with a swinging door mechanism. Come in all types of finishes and styles.
- Hard/Solid Wood:
- Wood that makes the bed and is solid wood all the way throughout it.
- Veneered Wood:
- Veneered wood is sturdy, yet it does not have wood all the way throughout. It has a wood surface that is connected.
- Linkspring Frame:
- The Linkspring is the steel frame that supports your Daybed. It eliminates the need for a Box Spring and Bed Rails. Simply place your Twin Size Mattress on top and have plenty of room underneath for storage or an optional Pop-up Trundle.
- Bolster Pillows:
- Decorative pillow that is used on Futons, Daybeds, and Beds to help embellish the piece of furniture it is intended for.
- Poly Inserts:
- Special foam insert that is used for the filling of pillows.
- Pillow:
- Fluffy support for head. Comes in many shapes and sizes like the full-sized Body Pillow, Standard (20" x 26"), Queen (20" x 30"), King (20" x 36") and European Square (26" x 26").
- Throw Pillows:
- Decorative pillow usually used for a Sofa, Daybed, or Bed. Comes in sizes from 6" x 13", 18" x 18", and 12" x 16".
